After a rough ride down from Deltaville (…ON A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL CRUISE) we spent three nights at Tidewater Yacht Marina in Portsmouth, VA to wait out some bad weather. See …AND THEN DOESN’T. Luckily, we are traveling (i.e. Buddy Boating) with C’est La Vie out of Lafayette, LA for a while. Then one or the other of us will either want to slow down, speed up, stay somewhere for awhile or take a different path and we’ll go our own ways. But, for now, we’re grateful for traveling with Neal and Margretta.
We saw our first dolphin underway as we came into Norfolk harbor, but I couldn’t get my camera out quickly enough and it didn’t stay around long. We’ll wait until we have actually pictures to post to really say we saw dolphins. :-). Maybe it was just a Navy underwater drone made to look like a dolphin coming to check us out. 😉
Maybe it was because we were there on a rainy Monday in October, but I was unimpressed with Portsmouth. Although, It does have some nice older homes and a quaint mainstreet. I could see it being much nicer is better weather.
Kenny and I, along with Neal and Margretta, walked all over Portsmouth and took a ferry over to Norfolk to grab a bite. There were not very many people around. And a lot of shops and restaurants were closed on Mondays. I guess that’s what happens when everyone else is working.
We met some Trawler Celebrities. ha! Bruce and Dorsey Beard are active users of the FB page Trawler Living and Cruising. I’ve seen their posts and commented on a few. They were recently spotted and recognized by other folks on that page in Solomon’s, MD (see their blog post here) making them the new “Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?”
I was reading the page and saw Bruce had indicated that they were in Tidewater Yacht Marina. I immediately let him know we where there as well. He found us on the dock. Long story short? New friends! More about them in the next post.

Excellent. Reliving that experience with you. Wish I had taken more pictures ⚓️
In case you don’t already know, (now that you are in dolphin waters) if you see them close by and they dive or disappear as you sail by, check the water at the bow. 🐬🐬. I literally had hours of entertainment in our time south watching them race the bow 🐬

I’m constantly on the lookout now! We heard some at Belhaven our first night there, but it was too dark to see them.
