I had agreed last year to be one of two voices for the morning Cruiser’s Net at the 2018 Krogen Cruisers Rendezvous in Solomons Island, MD. A Cruiser’s Net is a daily VHF radio show that gives cruisers in that particular island, moorage, or marina a chance to share information, ask questions or offer items for sale, trade or for free. For the Rendezvous, it gave us a chance to announce changes to the program, and things of that nature. Our version was a bit more fun and games than most Cruiser’s Nets.
Along with Bunnie Eccleston, we aired the Bunnie and Kitty Show at 7:45 am Wednesday through Sunday. Although, we did postpone it on Sunday until 8:00 am. woo hoo! Bunnie and I both have what we’ll call a lot of personality. 🙂 It was a great show! She thanked another cruiser for lubricating her o-ring…on her generator. And I was very careful not to get in trouble discussing Fluid Management…onboard your boat. All very innocent, and yet… hahaha. Bunnie also had a boat related joke or two everyday that she called the Bunnie Funny.
We did the VHF broadcast from Bunnie’s boat the first day. But, we moved to Sabrina for the rest of them. I printed the ON AIR sign to tape in pilothouse window to keep folks from trying to talk to us while we were, well, on air. (On Air photo credit to Arleen Mauger) Sabrina was the first boat in line by the boardwalk. That turned out to be a very fun thing to do. “Broadcasting live from the Sabrina Studios right here at Calvert Marina, The Bunnie and Kitty Show!”
We had so much fun at the Rendezvous that we agreed to chair the event next year. Yikes! That might mean I need to give up the morning radio show as I’ll have enough to do. We’ll see if someone can pry that mic out of my hands! People that know me will understand.
We had 44 boats this year. Lots of boats over 50′. Those are on the right of the aerial photo. I’ve indicated our little Sabrina on the lower left. Photo credit to Scott Miller of Miller Time.
By the way, Miller Time is one of my favorite boat names as it includes the owner’s name or has a distinct and personal meaning for the owners. Others that I like are Urben Renewal (owned by the Urbens), Dyer Need (the Dyers), H’Evans Gift (named after a Dr. Evans that performed life saving surgery on the owner) and I’m sure there’s another one I can’t think of right now.
I have some artsy photos to share with you as well as a few boating pictures. Hope you enjoy them.
Until the next post!
Kitty
