… HOME – IN BRUTAL HEAT

Well, we made the trip from Solomon’s back home in one day – Monday, July 2. Left Washburn’s at 11:00 am, and the 65 mile trip took 9 hours. On this and any trip, actual distance varies from the course that I plot because I have to adjust to traffic, but at the same time the charted course uses straight lines and I can round off some of the corners.

If you’re following the weather, you know that the mid-Atlantic has been in a heat wave for a few days. Temperature for most of the trip was well over 90 F even out in the bay. Also for the majority of the trip we were traveling the same speed and direction as the wind, which means the air was effectively still. On the plus side, seas were calm and there was little traffic. Kitty had the thought to buy Gatorade for the trip, and I wouldn’t have wanted to be without it.

So now Sabrina is at her home dock on the Magothy. The next couple of months will be consumed with our move plans and some land travel. We’ll spend what time we have on board getting some things organized and working on some skills we need to sharpen. For example, we’ve never launched or operated the dinghy, and we want to do that for the first time in familiar waters.

  1. All’s swell! Hahaha. Sounds like the retirement life has started off beautifully, Kenny! and the whole dinghy thing is a master plan. Can’t wait to meet Sabrina and see you and Kitty again. It was a tremendous send off party!
