Two days into retirement – we’ve finally had a chance to take Sabrina out for her first cruise of the season. It was a short trip – about 17 miles round trip just up the Patuxent River and back. Washburn’s has one or two things to tidy up for us tomorrow morning, then we’ll start the trip to our home dock in Pasadena, MD. We probably won’t make the ~66 mile trip all in one day. Possible landing places for tomorrow include Herrington Harbor and the western shore of Kent Island.
Since this is our first post since the end of last season, I have much to write about and won’t get to all of it. Here are the highlights – each of these warrant a separate post in the coming weeks.
- Off-season projects: Some nice things done that I’m very happy with, but we ended up not doing the two major projects – moving the generator and making the dining table movable. The new Garmin 7616 chart plotter is installed and works nicely with the autopilot (TOYS!!!!!). The new bow thruster is much more powerful than the old one.
- Our future cruising plans: Several people have asked about this. We need to get our living arrangements sorted out (more on this below), so we may not get to spend too much time cruising until well into September. We want to spend some time at the dock and in nearby waters getting to know our boat a little better.
- Life: Kitty and I have decided to sell our house in DC and we are renting an apartment in Baton Rouge. Our plan is spend most of our time on board and moving around with the seasons (hello, Florida winters), but thought it would be nice to have a little place in Baton Rouge for when we visit family attend Dean’s Advisory Council functions.
So happy summer to all! I’m getting a late start but should catch up soon.

Anchors away!! Happy sailing as you bring Sabrina home.
